Remember when CapCut vanished in January? Creators everywhere were left scrambling. Projects stalled. Deadlines slipped. It was a rough reminder that when you build your workflow around one tool, you're taking a risk.
We talked about that in a recent QuickTip. And right in the middle of all that chaos, Meta quietly announced a new video editing app called Edits. It was available for preorder back in January. You could download it, but it didn’t actually do anything.
Fast forward to now, and Edits has officially launched as of Tuesday, April 22. And after spending some time with it, we can say that it’s a pretty great tool.

What Is Edits?
Edits is a free mobile editing app from Meta. It works on iOS and Android, connects directly to both Instagram and Facebook, and is designed to help creators make high-quality content quickly.
The interface is clean. The tools are intuitive. It avoids the clutter that makes other editing platforms feel overwhelming.
You can add text, transitions, filters, music from Instagram’s library, generate captions automatically, and even use AI-powered cutouts and noise reduction. And best of all? No watermark when you export.
What About CapCut?
We’re still using CapCut Pro sometimes, but it starts at $19.99/month, depending on your plan. And most of the best features are behind a paywall.
Edits is simpler, but that’s a good thing. It gives you the tools most people actually use without all the extras you don’t need. For the average user, this is a big improvement in usability.
The only real downside so far is that posting to multiple accounts isn’t seamless yet. For creators managing several brands or pages, that’s a speed bump. But if you’re running one account, it works well.
Why This Matters Right Now
When Edits was first announced, it felt like a strategic move — and the timing couldn’t have been more relevant.
The future of TikTok is still uncertain. ByteDance was given an extension until mid-June to sell the platform or face a full U.S. ban. So, TikTok is safe to use for now. But what happens after that? No one knows.
In the meantime, Meta is investing heavily in short-form video, and it’s working.
From their Q1 2025 report:
Over 3.5 billion Reels are shared every day across Instagram and Facebook
Meta has 3.24 billion daily active users
50% of time on Instagram is spent on Reels
60% of time across Meta platforms is spent watching video
87% of Gen Z users follow businesses after watching a Reel
80% make purchases based on Reels content
Reels ads drive 14% higher average brand lift than standard campaigns
If video isn’t part of your strategy yet, now’s the time to change that.
