Stepping into the Spotlight: Guest on the Out to Lunch Podcast

I've been on plenty of podcasts. I've interviewed hundreds of people during my journalism career. But sitting down as a guest on the Out to Lunch Baton Rouge podcast last week was a little different. I wasn't there to promote a client or report someone else's story. I was there as a founder, representing QuickFlip Media and talking about my own business journey.

Practicing What We Preach

Here's something I tell my team constantly: we have to do for ourselves what we do for our clients. It sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how often businesses fail at this. The accountant with messy books. The marketing agency has a neglected social media presence. The chef who hits up McDonald's a little too much.

In creative production, this gap is especially common. We spend so much energy making our clients look incredible that our own content falls to the bottom of the list. I'm guilty of it, too. I never submit my work to contests. I don't pitch myself to media outlets. Self-promotion has always felt uncomfortable.

So, when producer Grant Morris reached out because he thought my experience would fit well on the show, I was genuinely flattered. And I said yes, because this is exactly the kind of opportunity I'd push a client to take. Not to mention that I genuinely enjoy listening to the show, so I’m a fan.

Everything Almost Fell Apart

The day started great. I was prepped, excited, and ready to record. Then, right as I pulled into the parking lot, chaos. One of my team members was out on an assignment and hit a snag that needed immediate attention. I sat in my car handling what I could, watching the clock, trying to solve problems remotely while mentally rehearsing talking points.

Eventually, I had to make the call. Walk in or be late. So, I walked in, pushed the stress aside, and trusted my team to figure things out. They did. That's what good teams do.

The Conversation We Should Have Had

My co-guest was Calvin Fabre, and honestly, I wish we had more time to chat, especially about AI. In fact, our on-air conversation kept landing on that topic in some ways I didn't expect.

Looking back, I almost wish the entire episode had focused on that. We touched on it, but there's so much more to explore. We recently completed a full commercial using AI, creating an entire video without filming a single frame. It's the kind of project that shows where this technology is actually going, not just hype, but practical application. [Source: [QuickFlip Media](https://www.quickflipmedia.com/)]

The podcast mentioned my upcoming workshop on interview techniques, which is helpful information. But what I'm really excited about is our AI for Video workshop happening soon. That's where the industry is heading, and I want to help business owners understand how to use these tools effectively.

One Clarification

During the recording, our host mentioned something about me running a "one-man newsroom." I appreciate the sentiment, but I want to stress that QuickFlip is not a solo operation.

Our core team includes Matthew White (co-founder), Jillian Leleux, and Braeden Hodges. We also work with a roster of contractors, including Robert Chandler, Sam Donchess, Simone Major, Anna Wasilczuk, Taylor Gordon, James Bergeron, and Nina Tran. These wonderful people are brought in regularly for specialized projects. We're actively looking to grow, and we have a big announcement coming soon about our new studio space.

But more on that later.

The Takeaway

If you've been avoiding opportunities to represent your business publicly, consider this your nudge. Whether it's a podcast appearance, a local business feature, or just showing up on your own social media, your visibility matters. You'd tell your clients the same thing.
